Concert review Warrnambool Sat 1st June 2024

It was such a treat hearing the O’Carolan Trio perform in Warrnambool recently. The combination of harp, fiddle and whistle was perfect and appropriate for the style. The instruments were very well balanced in volume and harmonised beautifully. The trio mainly performed music by the eighteenth-century Irish harper, Turlough O’Carolan, who was inspired by the Italian composers like Vivaldi and Corelli. O’Carolan music is well known among folk harpers for his lovely airs and planxties, pieces composed in honour of his patrons. The O’Carolan Trio presented a lovely performance of his music with interesting musical lines and distinctive arrangements. I particularly enjoyed their interpretation of one of my favourite tunes by O’Carolan ‘The Clergy’s Lamentation’. Fran Clements did a wonderful job of introducing each of the tunes and giving some context for the pieces. A very enjoyable concert!!

Thank you for playing for us at our wedding. All our guests really enjoyed the music (I wish I'd been able to hear more of it myself personally, but as tradition dictates I was late lol). It really added an air of class and yet kept the lovely romantic feel as well. So again, thank you. I'll be sure to recommend you to anyone that needs that special touch at their event.
Sally and Simon
